Aquicon is moving steadily ahead, the north and east first floor masonary walls are going up now. The third floor precast concrete is in place and the sub floor will be poured on it this week. The fourth four steel is in place and the roof trusses for the cardio room will be in place later this week. The roof decking for the north half of the structure has been ordered and will be installed in October. Meanwhile in the rest of the building the electrical and mechanical sub trades are installing the infrastructure for the mechanical and electrical equipment. The new electrical substation has been powered up and the primary feed to the new arena transformer has been successfully tested. The switch over to the new arena transformer took place Friday July 31st. The small west side substation is water tight and contractor has begun the work of transferring the electrical services in the existing Mitchell Building and the work was completed August 16th.
Demolition of the men’s staff change room offices and old sub station is taking place now and the work should be complete by the end of next week. The contractor is having an interesting time of it discovering plumbing lines and electrical wires not on any drawings has slowed this part of the work down considerably. Once complete Aquicon will pour the foundation footings for the rest of the south and west falls, pour the walls and begin installing the steel.
Progress on the administrative side continues to move forward as hundreds of shop drawings are being reviewed by Aquicon, MJMA, the consultants and Physical Resources staff weekly.
Detailed design work on Phase 2A has been completed, MJMA will now move forward with developing tender documents. The plan is to issue the project for tender this fall with construction to begin in April 2016.
