Aquicon is moving steadily ahead, the north wall, portions of the east and west walls, and centre support columns is complete, the cast in place concrete floor has been poured for 55 per cent of the building. Steel supports form the third and fourth floors are being installed this week. The precast concrete floor for the second level has been installed now. You can see the walls for the second floor rooms rising from this deck level.
Aquicon is planning on having the roof installed on the north portion of the building in place by the end of October and the south portion roof in place by the end February early March 2016. The new electrical substation has been powered up and the primary feed to the new arena transformer has been successfully tested. The switch over to the new arena transformer will take place Friday July 31st. The small west side substation is to be water tight this week and the contractor hopes to begin the work of transferring the electrical services in the existing Mitchell Building beginning this weekend and we will notice small periods of power shutdowns during the next week. Shutdowns involving specific areas in the existing Mitchell Centre will occur on the weekend of August 1st and 2nd. As much advance warning of these shut downs will be given as possible.
Progress on the administrative side continues to move forward as hundreds of shop drawings are being reviewed by Aquicon, MJMA, the consultants and Physical Resources staff weekly.
Detailed design work on Phase 2A has been completed, MJMA will now move forward with developing tender documents. The plan is to issue the project for tender this fall with construction to begin in April 2016.
